NAMI CA Multi-Skilled Online Webinar-based LIVE Training

The NAMI CA Multi-Skilled Online Webinar based LIVE Training is devoted to giving peers an opportunity to learn crisis counseling and educational skills that will assist with Teaching Peer-To-Peer Classes and Facilitate Connection Support Groups. This is a valuable "plus." We will support both the Affiliate Leader and the participants that are recommneded.

Training Details
 
DATES THAT PEERS CAN APPLY FOR TRAINING: 
 
  • Connection Training (limited spots!) - April 12 and 13, 2022
  • Peer to Peer Training (limited spots!) - April 19 and 20, 2022
  • Connection Training - July 16 & 17, 2022
  • Peer to Peer Training - July 23 & 24, 2022
Location:  Webinar Training (computer based) Tuesdays and Thursdays (LIVE) for 10 weeks

Time Commitment, Expectations & Support for Participants
 
  • No cost for the trainings
  • Trainings will be held via Zoom and participants must have access to a tablet, laptop or desktop computer with internet access
  • Participants will be trained in a Crisis Counseling Assistance & Training Program (from SAMHSA)
  • P2P participants will complete the NAMI “BRIDGE” Training
  • Affiliates will have new Leaders to teach/facilitate Peer-to-Peer and Connection support groups
  • Leaders will receive extra support and follow up surveys, including invitations to a support group for new volunteers
  • Leaders will have access to peer mentoring
  • Leaders will be utilized in their ‘home’ affiliate and potentially external positions as a peer
  • Participants will receive career counseling if needed
  • Approval by you is required.  If you know the applicant well, this may not be needed, but otherwise, an interview process of your choosing is needed, so that you will know whether to recommend them or not.
  • Application process includes an “Interest / Career Plan” (ICP) form that must be completed by the applicants
  • Prospective Leaders must:
    • Be an adult peer with lived mental health experience
    • Have attended a P2P series or a Connection Support Group
    • Be an active NAMI member (it is okay for them to become a member during the application process)
  • Affiliate leaders will receive step-by-step directions to submit program leaders for training in the NAMI Education Portal (upon your recommendation and our receiving of applicant’s ICP)
