Travis’s life had much to celebrate. He was Outstanding Graduating Senior of 2013 at San Jose State University, a successful professional, and deeply loved by family and friends. He started the World Changer Scholarship in 2013 to support San Jose State students who want to blend business with social justice. Travis was also a person with mental health challenges. While the event was to honor Travis’s life, strengths, and accomplishments, Travis’s friends and family also wanted to raise awareness that it is okay to talk about mental health.
NAMI volunteers and board members spent an afternoon talking about NAMI programs, listening to stories of personal and family experiences with mental health challenges, and spreading the word that no one has to experience mental illness alone.
